Dr.Babasahed Ambedkar International Airport

Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport is located in Nagpur, Maharashtra. The airport is named after the great politician and father of Indian Constitution, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. It was constructed in the year 2005 and is spread in an area of about 1500 acres.

 

The airport serves a huge amount of rush of almost 4000 passengers in a day. Not only this, it also witnesses both domestic and international flights on a daily basis, which are almost seven domestic and 2 international flights. The international flights connect Nagpur city to Sharjah.

 

The airport is constructed in a most modernized way, taking care of all the facilities of the passengers including parking facility. It is also called as the Multinational Hub of Airport. The presence of such an airport take cares not only a huge rush of passengers, but also make Nagpur city as one of the most economic and business centers hub in India. Airport Authorities of India has spent almost 80 Crores of rupees in order to compete with international standards.

 

If we discuss about the history of airport, it was commissioned at the time of First World War during the year 1917-18. Now due to the presence of so many passengers, a number of steps were taken by the government to manage such a huge rush.

 

In the year 2008, a new building was constructed at the airport terminal which was made up of glass and concrete to make it look most modern. Further, the airport’s terminal building is well connected to the highway in order to provide the necessary facilities to passengers like sanitation facilities, ATM, communication etc. The building, called as integrated building is well equipped with CCTV cameras, other electronic surveillance systems, etc.

 

Parking system is also provided at the airport which can accommodate at least 600 cars at a time. This has almost ended the problem of parking and handling of such a huge traffic at a time. It also has some other necessary facilities like restaurant, child care rooms, snack bar etc.

 

The airport witnesses a number of airline carriers like Air Arabia, Air India, Indigo, Jet Airways etc. All the flights from the airport go to the various destinations like Sharjah, Delhi, Mumbai, Raipur, Goa, Indore etc.
